Get to know the humans of OTTO Motors, what they do and why they chose a career at OTTO Motors!

What drew you to OTTO Motors? 

When I was a kid, I was always fascinated with technology and how fast it was growing. As someone born in the '90s, I have seen both a world without the internet and a world where you can order pizza from a vending machine. Technology has always been a driving factor for me when choosing a career. Also, since I have a background in logistics and supply chain, I felt like I could take up this challenge and deliver technology all over the world.

What differentiates OTTO Motors from other companies?

“Together, we can automate materials movement” is a mission OTTO truly believes in. We at OTTO Motors provide a faster and safer place to work. We ensure that material keeps moving in a manufacturing facility with or without any humans present, and help to overcome labor shortages.

What does your team do?

I am on the Logistics and Inventory team and we basically take care of all the inventory needs at OTTO’s manufacturing unit. From shipping spare parts to shipping the bigger AMRs, our aim is to ensure that our customers receive the products and parts as fast as humanly possible.

What does a typical day as a Logistics Coordinator look like at OTTO Motors?

My typical day starts off by making sure I have my goals and priorities set for the day. Then, I make sure I have resolved any open shipping tickets that need my immediate attention, and look ahead to what else needs to leave the facility that day. Once I have an idea of the shipments, I usually submit quote requests to the carriers and make sure I have arranged for pick up and deliveries accordingly. I also assist with creating customs documentation and making sure there are no delays at the border. Additionally, I work closely with the Inventory, Purchasing and Client Success teams to ensure that all the queries and shipping needs are handled. This also involves helping to improve interdepartmental cooperation and effectiveness.

What’s the most satisfying part of your role?

The most satisfying part of my role is knowing that I am able to deliver the technology when and where it is required. I feel like my contribution is putting a huge smile on a lot of faces, be it our customers or people at OTTO itself. Customer satisfaction is what encourages me to take up new challenges every day.

What do you look forward to when coming to work in the morning?

I look forward to coming into a company culture that is courteous and caring. When I come into work every morning, I am greeted by my coworkers and all the interactions are heartfelt and genuine. Walking into work and being surrounded by wonderful associates makes my work day much more enjoyable.

How did you get into Logistics?

I have a Bachelors in Commerce and a post-graduation in Global Business Management and Supply Chain Management, so I felt like this could be the best field to put my skills to the test. Supply chain has always fascinated me and it still does. It's incredible to me that something can be in a different part of the world altogether and then in an instant it could be there next to you. It was simply just the small things that made me want to choose a career in logistics.

Did you have any prior experience in Robotics?

No, I had no prior experience in robotics. But I am glad that I am a part of it now. I am learning new things everyday and it is so fascinating to see machines roaming around in the building. I am truly glad to be part of this innovative company trying to make the world a better place.

What are the must-have skills or knowledge for this role?

You have to be able to work under pressure, adapt to new situations and challenges quickly and have a lot of attention to detail. Knowledge of SRP/ERP systems can also serve as a great asset.
